Natchitoches, Louisiana

Saturday, April 26, 2025 (Day 15)

We enjoyed a simple cereal and English muffin breakfast with Ted in the camper.  We then put our memory skills to work as we hitched the truck and camper up after a six-day break.  Ted lent his assistance to assure “all systems go” including slide retracted, utilities disconnected, trailer securely hitched, all trailer lights operational and all indoor objects secured in place.  Little did we know how important that would be as we traversed the horrible Louisiana Roads!  It honestly didn’t matter whether it was an interstate, state route, county or local road.  They beat the heck out of us and tested the integrity of the trailer hitch, our packing, dental work, and sports bra.  We got a little respite on the newly paved final mile approach to the Grand Ecore RV Park in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

It was actually a very nice RV Park with very spacious pull-through sites.  Exploring the park would have to wait for Sunday as we wanted to explore the town of Natchitoches which sits on the Cane River Lake an oxbow formed when the course of the Red River shifted.

We took advantage of a Christmas gift Susan had discovered – Let’s Roam Scavenger Hunt.  It’s an app which sends you on a virtual scavenger hunt to interesting places in locals all over the world.  Susan purchased an annual membership so we can self-explore cities throughout our travels.  It led us to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, a cute riverside park, Northwestern State University, and the Texas and Pacific Train depot.

The following morning we explored the 2.5 mile paved trail with exercise stations around the RV Park.  We came upon a herd of longhorn steers, and a nice swing with a view out to the Red River.  Late morning meant time for hitching up and heading to the next destination….Natchez, Mississippi.
