Off to get the Trailer!

Saturday April 12 – Monday April 14, 2025 (Travel Days 1-3)

Carol and Mike McClory wished us bon voyage with another candy board – this time in the form of a McDonald’s iced tea lid board and a huge grocery bag containing enough calories for the next three months.  (It’s 1/3 gone and we haven’t picked up the trailer yet.)

Day 1 (April 12) – Beaverton, OR to Boise ID (441 miles) We made it to Boise on night one.  True to retirement (aka old people’s) lifestyle, we had dinner off the senior’s menu at Applebees. Ginger traveled pretty well with few complaints….although she didn’t get a normal cat’s day of sleep…too much excitement!

Day 2 – (April 13) Boise, ID to Green River, WY (463 miles) – We made our first “visiting friends” stop in Ogden, UT to see Betsy Mennell and Larry Putman.  We enjoyed a great lunch and visit with them.  It had been wayyyyy too long since we had gotten together!  They were gracious to help test Ginger on her leash and outdoor playpen which were met with only moderate success.  Ultimately, they gave Ginger free run of their home for a few hours.  That must’ve been just what she needed….she looked “partied” out during the final 2-1/2 hour jaunt to Green River.

Day 3 – (April 14) Green River, WY to Estes Park, CO (340 miles) – As planned, this was a shorter driving day in order to log our first national park.  After a picnic lunch in Laramie, WY, (home to a nice-looking University of Wyoming main campus) we made our way south into Colorado, and up through winding Big Thompson Canyon into Estes  Park and to the Pine Haven Cabins. After unloading, we made a 25-mile driving tour through a small part of Rocky Mountain National Park.  We saw lots of Elk and deer.  We were more impressed with them than they were with us!
